Objective

The goal is to be the first player or team to play a set of four cards of equal rank on top of the battle pile and have no other cards left in hand.
The game continues until a player or team meets the winning conditions.
In a partnership game, when a player meets the winning conditions, the player's team wins.

Battles

There's an attacker and a defender.

  • The attacker plays a card or a set of equal cards to the battle pile.

  • Other players (except the defender) can play cards of the same rank on top of the battle pile.

The defender can now choose to:

  • Beat the attack by playing cards of the same rank or higher cards with the same suit.

  • Concede the battle by picking up all of the cards played to the battle pile.

If defender has beaten the attack it becomes the new attacker.
In case of conceding the battle, defender does not get a turn to attack.
The next attacker is the player to the defender's left.

Elimination

If defender exceeds 16 cards in hand by picking up the battle pile, set player becomes eliminated, with its cards offered to the remaining players.

Winning

To win, a player or team must play the last of four cards of equal rank to the battle pile and have no other cards left in hand.

Example: Attacker vs. Defender

Step 1: Attacker Makes a Move

In each battle, one player is the attacker, and the player to their left is the defender.
The attacker plays a card or a set of equal cards face up on the battle pile.

Example: The attacker plays a set of ♠7 together with ♥7 as a top card

Step 2: Other Players, Join In

Other players, excluding the defender, can add cards of the same rank to the battle pile.

Example: Another player adds the ♦️7 on top of the ♥7

Step 3: Defender's Move

Defender has two options; beat the attack or to concede, defender chooses to beat the attack.
Defender can beat the attack by playing cards of the same rank or higher cards with the same suit.

Example: The defender beats the attack by playing the ♦️10, which is higher than the ♦️7

Step 4: More Cards Can Be Added

Players can continue to add cards of the same rank as the last card of the battle pile.

Example: As the defender has played the ♦️10, now anyone can throw in more 10's

Step 5: Who Takes the Pile, if Any?

Any player, except the last to play a card, can pick up the entire battle pile and add it to their hand.
If more than one player wants it, the attacker has the priority, then the other players in clockwise order.
If no player wants to pick up the battle pile, it is discarded and so added to the 'old cards' or discard pile.

Step 6: Battles Continue...

The defender now becomes the new attacker and so a new battle begins.
